The stamp featured the Amur tiger, also known as the Siberian tiger, which once roamed Western and Central Asia, facing threats from poaching.

Nancy Stahl, the artist behind over 20 US postage stamps, created the image of an Amur tiger cub using species photographs as inspiration.

The Save Vanishing Species semi-postal stamp sold for 11¢ more than the first-class postage rate, with additional funds supporting global conservation through the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wildlife Without Borders program.

From September 2011 to December 2013, over 25 million stamps sold, raising over $2.75 million. In 2014, President Obama signed a bill reauthorizing the stamp until 2018, and by July 2018, it had raised over $5.2 million.
