Birthdays are celebrated in countless ways all over the world.  Some families have passed down traditions for generations.  Others stick to their culture’s customs.  Regardless of the celebrations’ origins, they all make the birthday person feel loved and appreciated.

In the United States, the most-common birthday tradition is to throw a party.  These celebrations usually include brightly colored balloons, streamers, and signs.  In 2021, the United States Postal Service issued a Forever stamp picturing some of these decorations.

After the party spot has been fully decked out, guests arrive with presents and cards.  Gifts often add to the decor with vibrant wrapping paper and bags.  Once everyone arrives at the party, snacks or a small meal may be served.  When it’s time for birthday cake, everyone gathers together to sing “Happy Birthday To You.”  The birthday person then blows out the candles and makes a wish.

Of course, it’s not always possible to attend every birthday party we’re invited to.  That’s when mailing a birthday card is the best way to send well-wishes near and far.  And don’t forget to pick a good stamp to carry those wishes!  Since the 2021 Happy Birthday design is a Forever stamp, that means you can use it to mail cards to loved ones for years to come.
